Went to the Mercury Cafe after work to watch a poetry slam, only to find that the slams are on Sunday. I should have checked it out better first. Went home and practiced guitar: “Closer to Fine,” “Too Late for Love,” and “Ode to Billy Joe.”

Flat Rabbit Jammin’
Jammed with Flat Rabbit. Mick didn’t show, but that’s understandable; he’s between houses at the moment and has a busy schedule. We had fun anyway, and my son played bass with us on a couple of songs. I started learning an original song by Brad and John called “How Can There Be Peace.”
Inspidered
Organized writing group folders in gig bag, considered critiquing a couple of stories for Wednesday’s group. Went to see Spider-Man instead. That movie kicks; not only are the effects great, it’s a very human story that took me back to my comic collecting days and awoke some old memories and feelings that I hadn’t acknowledged for a while. Inspired (inspidered?), I practiced electric guitar at home. Tried to learn “Finish What You Started” by Van Halen. Keith and I took advantage of the fact that he had his upright bass home from school and I taught him how to play a basic 12 bar blues bass line on it. It was cool to be able to share music with my son.
Making Musical Connections
Attended Keith’s state solo competition, went to watch Dot Com play in Colorado Springs. Enjoyed talking with Mick (guitarist) and Brad the Drummer about music and set up a jam session with Mick and Flat Rabbit for Friday, May 10.
Margaritaville
Played acoustic guitar in the dark for an hour. Learned chords for “Margaritaville.”
