In the penumbra of greatness

Critiqued one story for Writer’s Circle critique group, attended said group in the evening.  Was inspired by the news that one of our members recently had a story accepted by F&SF!

Inspidered

Organized writing group folders in gig bag, considered critiquing a couple of stories for Wednesday’s group. Went to see Spider-Man instead. That movie kicks; not only are the effects great, it’s a very human story that took me back to my comic collecting days and awoke some old memories and feelings that I hadn’t acknowledged for a while. Inspired (inspidered?), I practiced electric guitar at home. Tried to learn “Finish What You Started” by Van Halen. Keith and I took advantage of the fact that he had his upright bass home from school and I taught him how to play a basic 12 bar blues bass line on it. It was cool to be able to share music with my son.

Denny’s and Middle-Aged Spread

Attended Tem writing group sans homework. Afterward, went to Denny’s with friends from the group and discussed writing, life in general and the heartbreak of middle-age spread.

The Hoagie’s Journey

Researched homework for Tem writing group, but could not come up with a way to fit the “Hero’s Journey” plot into a piece short enough to read in class. Considered writing a tongue-in-cheek piece focusing on a hoagie sandwich, and tracing its journey from deli to consumer, and the transformations along the way. Might return to that some time. Or not.
